What the family say...
Libby's Mum (Moira): - "As a family we have been supporting
Libby since she was nine; we then lived in Macclesfield Cheshire
and I used to take her to the track twice a week, only 15 minutes
away it was no more than any other parent would do. As she became
more enthusiastic I looked into British Blind Sport which could offer
her more, these events though were mostly held in the Midlands which
still wasn't any great distance. Eventually, due to constraints on
Libby's education we moved to the Scottish Borders, Libby was twelve
and the problem of finding a club was much more difficult. Because
of where we live a simple track session became a whole morning or
afternoon; as her sister and brothers were younger it became a family
trip out, though they didn't see it as such at times.

Now as a World Class Athlete
the training is five/six times a week which involves a lot more of
my time and a lot more miles; I wouldn't be doing this if Libby didn't
put in all the hard work, she trains in all weather conditions while
I am sitting in a nice warm car.... Whilst I'm doing this I don't
have as much time as I would like to spend with her sister and brothers,
though as they get older they understand why we all have to make
sacrifices to get Libby where she is today and beyond. Last September
when we all went to Holland to watch her compete in the World games
it made it all worthwhile, her whole family are so proud of her and
what she has achieved; the nicest thing is she is still the same
Libby..." |
